Asassin’s creed walhalla
Overview
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a 2020 action RPG developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Set in late 9th-century Viking Age England, players control Eivor, a Viking clan leader who leaves Norway to establish the settlement of Ravensthorpe. Gameplay blends exploration, combat, stealth, and settlement management.
The game received praise for its narrative, open world, and Viking setting, though it was criticized for its length and repetitive side content. It became the franchise’s most successful launch, surpassing 1.8 million players in its first week and earning over $1 billion in revenue.

Storyline
The story unfolds in 855 AD in Norway, where young Eivor witnesses their homeland attacked by warlord Kjotve the Cruel. Adopted by the Raven Clan’s leader, Styrbjorn, and alongside their brother Sigurd, Eivor pursues vengeance against Kjotve. Though unsuccessful at first, the failed strike allows them to recover their father’s axe, triggering visions from Odin.
In England, Eivor builds alliances across Saxon kingdoms, aiding local rulers and battling the Order of the Ancients. Their journey takes them from Vinland to mythical visions of Asgard and the Isu past, revealing deeper layers of their identity. In a pivotal moment, Eivor and Sigurd confront a simulated Valhalla within an Isu temple, where they discover they are reincarnations of Norse gods—Eivor as Odin, Sigurd as Tyr, and Basim as Loki.
Climax & Themes
The critical confrontation occurs within the Isu simulation known as Valhalla, where Eivor must challenge both illusions and identity. Discovering their godly nature heightens the stakes and moral complexity of their mission. Post-revelation, Eivor returns to England, leading decisive battles such as Guthrum’s assault on Wessex and a pivotal confrontation with King Alfred—who is revealed to be a leader of the Order of the Ancients. Choosing mercy over destruction, Eivor spares Alfred, ultimately returning to Ravensthorpe as a leader respected for their wisdom and strength.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla deeply explores themes of identity, legacy, and belief. It merges Viking mythology with Assassin lore, challenging players to consider the tension between fate and free will. Eivor’s journey confronts questions about leadership, kinship, and the meaning of power—enriched by the interplay between historical realism and mythological fantasy. Minimalist storytelling and branching missions invite players to shape their own path, reflecting on duty, choice, and the dual nature of human divinity.
